UPCOMING: JA-PARS MODIFICATIONS ENABLE REPORTING OF ACTIVITIES FOR DENTISTS

We are pleased to announce upcoming changes to the Joint Accreditation Program and Activity Reporting System (JA-PARS) in support of our collaboration with the American Dental Association (ADA). These changes will be released September 10th and will allow jointly accredited providers to:

  • Indicate activities with a target audience of dentists or allied dental staff
  • Indicate the credits/contact hours offered to these professions
  • Report participation numbers for dentists and allied dental staff
  • Download updated reports that include these new fields

These changes are available in the JA-PARS Sandbox (testing) environment now. As of September 10th, these changes will be live in JA-PARS. Updated versions of the tab-delimited and XML activity submission templates are available here. Learn more here.

COMMISSION ON DIETETIC REGISTRATION JOINS JOINT ACCREDITATION

We are delighted to offer a new opportunity: jointly accredited providers now have the option of offering accredited continuing education activities and profession-specific credit for Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered.

We’ve collaborated with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) to expand Joint Accreditation, enabling you to award single profession or interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) credit to Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered, without needing to attain separate program or activity accreditation through CDR.

If you are jointly accredited and your target audience includes Registered Dietitians and Dietetic Technicians, Registered, or you are interested in expanding your target audience to include those professions, we invite you to consider this new option. You can choose to add the ability to award CDR Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEU) for $1,500 per year.

Please note: There is no change to the accreditation or reaccreditation process. This new collaboration offers you more options, but there is no requirement to participate. Learn more here.

JOINT ACCREDITATION DECISIONS

Joint Accreditation made 18 accreditation decisions. Congratulations to the providers that received Joint Accreditation and welcome to our new jointly accredited providers!

We encourage jointly accredited providers to celebrate their success in achieving accreditation and communicate the value of their accreditation and accreditation-related accomplishments by informing their community, learners, stakeholders, and the public. In addition to including the Joint Accreditation Mark in your accreditation statement, you are welcome to include it in educational materials and other communications, such as announcements related to your organization’s attainment of Joint Accreditation.

NORTH CAROLINA MEDICAL BOARD RECOGNIZES JOINT ACCREDITATION AND IPCE CREDIT

We are pleased to share that the North Carolina Medical Board has recognized jointly accredited providers and IPCE credit as approved categories of CME. IPCE credit has also been recognized by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) and the Georgia State Board of Pharmacy. Research has shown that IPCE makes a substantial difference to healthcare teams and the patients they serve, and we are proud of the growing recognition of Joint Accreditation since its inception in 2010.

PLANNING FORM FOR EXPEDITED ACCREDITED ACTIVITIES RELATED TO COVID-19 AVAILABLE THROUGH DECEMBER 31, 2020

This spring, we released the Planning Form for Expedited Accredited Activites Related to COVID-19 to help jointly accredited continuing education (CE) providers meet the urgent need for education. Since there were no approved tests or treatment options for COVID-19 available, it was unlikely that planners and faculty would have any relevant financial relationships to disclose. Therefore, we decided to remove the requirements for disclosure of relevant financial relationships and resolution of personal conflicts of interest for activities related to COVID-19 only, as part of our efforts to support the delivery of crucial education to clinicians and teams on the front lines of the pandemic.

We’ve heard from many of you that the form has been a helpful and widely utilized resource. We’ve also heard that as testing and treatments become available, some planners or faculty may now have relevant financial relationships. In response to the fast-changing environment, we have modified the form to clarify that it is available for use for activities offered by December 31, 2020, but not beyond. Please continue to use the form through the end of the year when appropriate. If you are concerned about planners or faculty who might have relevant financial relationships, always defer to the disclosure and resolution requirements to best serve your learners.
