Keynote Panel Discusses CE Accreditation as Driver of Quality

March 7, 2014

Executive leadership from the Joint Accreditation™ program participated in a keynote session at the Alliance for Continuing Education in the Health Professions (ACEHP) Annual Meeting, held in January in Orlando. The panelists included Kate Regnier, MA, MBA, Executive Vice President, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME); Dimitra V. Travlos, PharmD, BCPS, Assistant Executive Director & Director, Continuing Pharmacy Education Provider Accreditation, Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE); and Kathy Chappell, PhD, RN, Director, Accreditation Program, American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

During the interactive keynote, the panelists discussed the future of healthcare education and accreditation as a driver of quality. They explained the growing emphasis on Joint Accreditation and how it supports interprofessional collaborative practice. There are increasing opportunities for continuing professional education to demonstrate its responsiveness and effectiveness, they said, because the US government has recognized CE as a strategic asset to public health initiatives, such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) for Extended-Release and Long-Acting Opioid Analgesics.

The Joint Accreditation speakers were joined on the panel by Daniel R. Pace, Senior Director, Education,  American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA).
