A new report, Let’s Go, Team! Planning Education for Maximum Impact! explores best practices and strategies for effective team-based education. The report captures the highlights from the 2019 Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education Leadership Summit, which brought together more than 100 IPCE professionals, representing 60 organizations, focused on maximizing the impact of IPCE.

This report is the fourth in a series. The first, By the Team for the Team: Evolving Interprofessional Continuing EducationTM for Optimal Patient Care, second, Promoting Research across the Continuum of Health Professions Education: Making Patient Care Better, and the third report, IPCE Works! Identifying Measures of Success and Evaluating Our Impact, are available at www.jointaccreditation.org.

The Leadership Summits and reports were supported (in part) by the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation. The Summits were hosted by the three founding accreditors in Joint Accreditation: the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

Leadership Comments

“Each year, these Summits allow us to create a space for our community of IPCE professionals and jointly accredited providers to share stories of successes and planning processes to integrate into their own team-based CE activities. The IPCE credit enables healthcare stakeholders to identify activities designed to improve team collaboration and patient care. That’s why we need to work together to build the value of IPCE credit. Our goal is for the IPCE credit to represent interprofessional CE. It’s a journey.” Kate Regnier, MA, MBA, Executive Vice President, ACCME

“The Joint Accreditation Leadership Summits show the important work being done by jointly accredited providers and documents the benefits and outcomes of their work. Working together, we can continue to integrate IPCE into continuing professional development across all health professions and to support the delivery of effective, safe, and compassionate care for the patients, families, and communities we all serve.”Kathy Chappell, PhD, RN, FNAP, FAAN, Senior Vice President, Accreditation, Certification, Measurement, Quality and the Institute for Credentialing Research, ANCC

“This report illustrates how jointly accredited providers are working every day to make a difference. Our community of IPCE providers has made, and will continue to make, a substantial difference to healthcare teams and the patients they serve. We are not going to change the healthcare system unless professionals in practice learn from, about, and with each other and foster that learning in the students coming up behind them.”Dimitra V. Travlos, PharmD, Assistant Executive Director, and Director, CPE Provider Accreditation, ACPE
