COMING IN SPRING 2021: JA-PARS ENHANCEMENTS

We’re excited to announce that we’re continuing to improve the Joint Accreditation Program and Activity Reporting System (JA-PARS). Our goal is to simplify the data-reporting process for jointly accredited providers and increase the value of data for stakeholders, including providers; clinicians and teams; researchers; certifying and licensing boards; and government agencies.

The enhanced version of JA-PARS will feature a modernized, user-friendly, streamlined interface for activity and learner reporting. Reflecting feedback that we’ve heard from providers and other stakeholders, the new version will:

  • Simplify data entry for activities that span multiple years
  • Improve options for identifying activity content
  • Expand and simplify options for entering learner data

We’re making these changes based on recommendations from the continuing education community as well as other stakeholders. We appreciate the input we’ve received and will continue to offer opportunities for jointly accredited providers to give us feedback as we move forward.

We expect to launch the new version of JA-PARS in Spring 2021. Watch for updates in our newsletter and on our website.

COPE AWARDS LIVE CREDIT FOR INTERACTIVE DISTANCE LEARNING ACTIVITIES

Due to state restrictions and CDC guidelines related to COVID-19, the Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (COPE) has temporarily modified their rules to allow COPE administrators/providers and jointly accredited providers to award live credit for CE courses if they are presented in an interactive distance learning format. Additional details for this type of activity include:

  • In order to be considered interactive distance learning, attendees must be able to have immediate interaction with the instructor (i.e., live webinar, videoconference) throughout the entire course.
  • The activity can only be presented at one specified time, and once it has taken place the learners may no longer participate in that activity.
  • Post-course tests will not be required for this modified type of activity.

This temporary policy modification is active through December 31, 2020. Guidelines for live interactive distance learning activities are available here
