Summit TestimonialsHear from Your Colleagues

New to IPCE and not sure if the Summit is for you? We interviewed three members of the IPCE community who explained the value they see in attending the Summit and why newcomers should leverage this professional development opportunity.

Bing YouRobert Bing-You, MD

Director, Continuing Interprofessional Development, Maine Medical Center
Jointly accredited since 2020

“Attending the Joint Accreditation Leadership Summit is highly valuable for members of the continuing education community. It offers an opportunity to hear new IPCE-related updates and to connect with colleagues on the same Joint Accreditation journey. Joint Accreditation is very much in evolution, and it’s important to learn about the growth and direction of this significant push towards advancing interprofessional continuing education.”

DonawaAnnette Donawa, PhD

Assistant Provost of Continuing Professional Development, Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University
Jointly accredited since 2019

“I would definitely recommend newcomers to attend the 2022 Joint Accreditation Leadership Summit. There is always something new to learn from colleagues and peer institutions, whether you are beginning the Joint Accreditation process or have been jointly accredited for a few years. There are so many success stories and ways to continually improve Joint Accreditation.”

ODonnellLolita O’Donnell, PhD, MSN, RN

Director, Continuing Education Program, Defense Health Agency
Jointly accredited since 2017

“By attending the Joint Accreditation Leadership Summit, we’ve learned that diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) are critical and imperative components of IPCE. It is our responsibility as educators of healthcare providers to incorporate DEI training into our courses. The onus is on us to investigate, understand, and respond to disparities. My team and I look forward to attending the 2022 Leadership Summit to learn more about healthcare priorities that should be addressed in IPCE programs.”

EXPLORE THE BENEFITS OF ENTERING PHYSICIAN CREDIT DATA IN JA-PARS

As you know, we launched the new Joint Accreditation Program and Activity Reporting System (JA-PARS) in November 2021 to reflect feedback from our stakeholders. Part of this upgrade included the creation of an integrated, centralized data system for finding, viewing, and tracking CME credits. As a reminder, we introduced the following features in JA-PARS to help make reporting physicians’ credit data simple and efficient:

  • You have the option to enter, track, and manage physician credit data for any of your activities using manual entry, batch upload, or web services.
  • You can report CME and Maintenance of Certification/Continuing Certification (MOC/CC) credit in the same record, and we’ve reduced data entry in the web form.
  • When using the web form, most physicians will only need to enter their first and last name, month, and day of birth (not year), and state of licensure to make a match.
  • We’ve created a physician validation tool, enabling you to pre-validate learner-identification data prior to entering information about CME and MOC/CC credit, reducing rejections. This tool can be used manually, via batch upload, or web services.

Learn more about the value of reporting physicians’ credit data in JA-PARS here. As a reminder, when awarding continuing pharmacy education (CPE) credit, jointly accredited providers must enter activity and learner data via CPE Monitor. Read more here.

LEADERS IN IPCE OUTLINE CORE COMPETENCIES FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT AND SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER CARE

The 3Cs Framework for Pain and Unhealthy Substance: Minimum Core Competencies for Interprofessional Education and Practice,” a discussion paper from the National Academy of Medicine’s (NAM) Action Collaborative on Countering the US Opioid Epidemic, outlines a core competency framework for pain management and care for substance use disorders to help address performance practice gaps and strengthen the delivery of coordinated, high-quality, patient-centric care. The paper is authored by Eric Holmboe, (Accreditation Council for Continuing Graduate Education), Steve Singer (Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education), Kathy Chappell (American Nurses Credentialing Center), Kimia Assad and Aisha Salman (NAM), and the Education and Training Working Group from NAM’s Collaborative on Countering the US Opioid Epidemic.

EXPLORE IDEA PRINCIPLES IN THE CE EDUCATOR’S TOOLKIT

When designing and implementing an educational activity, it’s important to consider your learners’ demographics, experiences, learning preferences and needs, and professional backgrounds. The CE Educator’s Toolkit, an educational design resource developed by the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education (SACME) through an ACCME research grant, explores ways to incorporate principles of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) in CE programming and offers guidance on how to create meaningful educational opportunities for all learners. Learn more about IDEA principles on page 35 of the toolkit, available here.

Reminders for Jointly Accredited Providers

CONSIDER ADDING A TECHNICAL CONTACT FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION IN JA-PARS

Did you know you can add additional contacts for your organization in JA-PARS? All jointly accredited providers are required to list a primary contact to receive official Joint Accreditation communications, but you may also add an optional technical contact, designated for the person at your organization who manages information systems and technical updates related to your work in JA-PARS. By entering a technical contact, you can ensure this team member will receive relevant JA-PARS communications and updates (which will also be sent to the primary contact).

Tip: It is important to ensure that the primary contact can receive emails from [email protected]. You, or your organization’s IT administrator, may need to add this address to your internal list of allowed senders to prevent correspondence from being blocked or delivered to a spam folder.

Questions? Contact us at [email protected].
