IACET Joins Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™ as an Associate Member

The International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) has joined Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education™ as an Associate Member. This partnership brings together IACET’s globally recognized Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Standard and Joint Accreditation’s unified framework for accrediting interprofessional continuing education across multiple health professions through a single, coordinated process.

IACET is a nonprofit organization that has led the advancement of educational standards since its founding. In 1968, IACET pioneered the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) as a standardized measure of professional learning. As an American National Standards Institute (ANSI)–accredited standards developer, IACET is dedicated to advancing lifelong learning by developing research-based, consensus-driven standards and by supporting a global network of accredited training providers committed to delivering high-quality, impactful learning experiences.

CEUs may be offered for jointly accredited learning events that include participants from multiple professions, roles, or practice settings; particularly when discipline-specific credits do not fully represent the learner population. Where appropriate, CEUs may be offered alongside profession-specific credits and are not intended to replace credits required for licensure or regulatory compliance. For details, see the CEU Issuance Guidance: Information for Jointly Accredited Providers.

“As organizations work to strengthen the health and human services workforce, navigating multiple accreditation frameworks can present significant challenges,” said Randy Bowman, President and CEO of IACET. “Joining Joint Accreditation supports a more unified ecosystem that enables providers to design high-quality, outcomes-focused education serving entire interprofessional teams. This collaboration advances our shared commitment to learning that improves performance, collaboration, and the delivery of care.”

“We are pleased to welcome IACET as an Associate Member of Joint Accreditation,” said Dimitra Travlos, PharmD, FNAP, of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education, a co-founding organization of Joint Accreditation. “IACET’s longstanding expertise in establishing and maintaining rigorous continuing education standards across industries will contribute meaningfully to our collective efforts to support a coordinated, efficient, and high-quality accreditation environment for interprofessional education.”

As an Associate Member, IACET will collaborate with Joint Accreditation and its member organizations—including AAPA, ADA CERP, APA, ARBO/COPE, ASWB, BOC, and CDR—to support the ongoing evolution of the Joint Accreditation model. Through this partnership, IACET aims to expand access to high-quality continuing education, clarify the alignment between its CEU Standard and Joint Accreditation criteria, and support organizations delivering team-based education across clinical and non-clinical roles.
