A December 2015 report, “Assessing Progress on Institute of Medicine Report The Future of Nursing,” published by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), analyzes the impact of the 2010 IOM report The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. This new assessment recommends increasing interprofessional collaboration and lifelong learning, and describes Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education as one of the efforts promoting interprofessional learning. “Joint Accreditation allows organizations to develop innovative programs to further build the competency of clinicians working in healthcare teams,” the report states.
