JA-PARS IMPROVEMENTS: ADDING MORE PROFESSIONS

We are in the process of modifying the Joint Accreditation Program and Activity Reporting System (JA-PARS) to enable you to enter more information about your CE activities that include optometrists, PAs (physician assistants), psychologists, and social workers.

These changes will go live next week. We will discuss the changes on the June 11 Provider Update Webinar and post detailed information on the Joint Accreditation website including FAQ and technical resources.

The JA-PARS modifications will include the following:

  • The ability to indicate if an activity’s target audience includes optometrists, physician assistants, psychologists, and social workers.
  • The ability to indicate the credit/contact hours offered for these specialties.
  • Participation numbers for optometrists, physician assistants, psychologists, and social workers.

We are also improving search functionality and reporting. You will be able to search for your activities using the Universal Activity Number (UAN) and provider activity ID on the activity search page. We are updating the reporting functions with the new fields, including the download of all activities and summary of closed activities reports, so these reports will display target audiences, the associated credit or contact hours offered, and number of participants.

Please note for the 2019 reporting year: If you have already reported 2019 CE activities in JA-PARS, you will have the option to update your entries for those activities to fill in the added fields.

MODIFICATIONS TO JOINT ACCREDITATION CRITERIA AND NEW COMMENDATION OPTION

We are pleased to announce that we have adopted a new Menu of Criteria for Joint Accreditation with Commendation. These optional criteria seek to provide additional incentive as well as encouragement to jointly accredited providers to expand their reach and impact in the IPCE/CE environment. We have also made modifications to the core criteria for purposes of clarity and simplification.

We’ve made the criteria modifications and introduced the option to achieve commendation in response to feedback from our community of jointly accredited providers. We thank all of you who participated in our discussions over the past few years and who contributed to our call for comment. We appreciate your insights and perspectives and look forward to continuing to work with you to advance healthcare education by the team, for the team.

We’ll discuss the changes on our June 11 Provider Update Webinar, and we will update our website with the new criteria, more information, and resources next week.

The nuts and bolts of planning and evaluation will be explored across different types of activities and different learning environments.
