MESSAGE FROM THE JOINT ACCREDITORS

We know these are difficult times and we appreciate the extraordinary challenges you face as educators, helping to prepare the clinician community to respond to the pandemic. Your work is of vital importance especially now. To support you, we’ve extended the deadline for submission of 2019 activity and overall program data to April 30, 2020, and posted new FAQ to help you report changes in activities related to COVID-19. Your health and safety are top of mind for us if there is anything we can do to help, please let us know. And to help us all keep a positive outlook, we share below some good news about our IPCE community’s accomplishments.

LET’S GO, TEAM! PLANNING EDUCATION FOR MAXIMUM IMPACT!  REPORT FROM THE 2019 LEADERSHIP SUMMIT

A new report, Let’s Go, Team! Planning Education for Maximum Impact! explores best practices and strategies for effective team-based education. The report captures the highlights from the 2019 Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education Leadership Summit, which brought together more than 100 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) professionals, representing 60 organizations, focused on maximizing the impact of IPCE.

This report is the fourth in a series. The first three reports are available here.

Highlights from the report include:

  • Planning team-based activities: Deborah Witt Sherman, PhD, APRN, ACHPN, FAAN, Professor in the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Florida International University, explored the core competencies for interprofessional collaboration.
  • Best practices in IPCE: Jointly accredited providers presented case studies that demonstrate best practices in IPCE.
  • What to expect when your team expands: Colleagues from the American Psychological Association (APA), the Association of Regulatory Boards of Optometry’s Council on Optometric Practitioner Education (ARBO/COPE), and the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) joined the summit for an informative discussion on adding additional professions to IPCE activities.

We are pleased to announce that more than 100 organizations have now achieved Joint Accreditation. The cofounder accreditors, ACCME, ACPE, and ANCC, made the first accreditation decisions in 2010, awarding Joint Accreditation to two innovative organizations. Today, more than 100 organizations have successfully achieved Joint Accreditation by demonstrating their dedication to advancing healthcare education by the team, for the team.

As shown in the figure, jointly accredited providers include a range of organization types. Congratulations to our IPCE community and thank you for your commitment to high quality education that improves team performance and patient care!

Cofounded by the ACCME, ACPE, and ANCC, Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education established the standards for IPCE planned by the healthcare team, for the healthcare team. Since 2010, when the first two organizations achieved Joint Accreditation, our IPCE community has grown to include:

How has Joint Accreditation facilitated greater collaboration in your institution? How has it allowed you to meet the mission of your organization? What impact have you seen in improving collaborative practice through interprofessional education? These are just some of the questions that we will explore during the summit. Of course, we’ll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions, share educational strategies, problem-solve around barriers and challenges, and network with amazing colleagues
