AMERICAN BOARD OF THORACIC SURGERY JOINS CME FOR MOC COLLABORATION

We’re pleased to share that the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS) has joined the

CME for MOC Collaboration to allow digital reporting of continuing medical education (CME) and

Continuing Certification (CC) credits for thoracic surgeons. The collaboration with ABTS is one of several that ACCME has with other boards who use this quick and easy-to-use system for hundreds of thousands of doctors nationally.

To facilitate this digitization of learner data, accredited providers whose target audience includes physicians can now take the following actions:

  • Review the CME for MOC Program Guide to learn about ABTS’s program.
  • Log in to JA-PARS to register any upcoming activities that meet ABTS’s requirements.
  • Report the credits that learners are issued into the system, so they can count towards learners’ ABTS CC requirements.

ACCME is conducting a one-hour training session on Thursday, December 7 at 1pm CT for accredited providers to learn to report CME that counts for ABTS Continuing Certification (CC).

The list of licensing boards actively using PARS/JA-PARS for CME information required for relicensure continues to grow! The American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery will join the collaboration soon, and all state medical licensing boards can now access CME credit data reported for their licensees.

UPDATE TO IPEC CORE COMPETENCIES FOR INTERPROFESSIONAL COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE

The Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice were first adopted in 2011, updated in 2016, and recently revised in 2023. The IPEC competencies have been disseminated throughout the health professions and incorporated into both curriculum and accreditation standards.

The 2023 IPEC competencies includes significant updates and improvements to the previous edition and contains a variety of materials:

  • A brief history of IPEC.
  • A summary of IPEC programs, projects, and resources.
  • An expanded and revised glossary of terms.
  • A corresponding comparison guide (Appendix D) that provides crosswalk tools to compare the differences between the second and third versions.

Learn more and register for the December 1 introductory webinar to discuss the newly revised IPEC competencies.

LEARNER CREDIT REPORTING MADE EASIER

Last Spring, ACCME solicited your input on ways to make learner credit reporting easier, and you asked for help to ease the administrative effort for learner credit reporting. With this in mind, we created a new feature in JA-PARS to help accredited providers already reporting Maintenance of Certification/Continuing Certification (MOC/CC) credits.

About the New Feature

If your target audience includes physicians and you’re already reporting MOC/CC credits, ACCME will now perform a credit match – resulting in the creation of a CME credit that corresponds to the MOC/CC learner credit that you are reporting. This means that if you are reporting MOC/CC credits, you do not have to report the CME credit. ACCME will do that for you! Your physician learners can then create a free profile in CME Passport and see the credit reported as both MOC/CC and CME for their state licensing board.

If you are reporting only CME credits, please continue to do so – this feature does not impact credits being reported for CME alone.

As more state licensing boards utilize JA-PARS for licensure audits, you can help your physicians by keeping their CME records current.
