New Manuscript Highlights the Value of IPCE and Joint Accreditation

A new peer-reviewed manuscript, The Value of Interprofessional Continuing Education and Joint Accreditation, has been published in the Journal of CME.

Authored by Logan T. Murry, PharmD, PhD; Jennifer Graebe, DrPH, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, FNAP, FAAN; Matthew Holderly, PharmD, Med; Kate Regnier, MA, MBA; and Dimitra V. Travlos, PharmD, FNAP; the article provides a comprehensive, descriptive examination of the evolution, impact, and value of Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) delivered through Joint Accreditation.

Drawing on Joint Accreditation Leadership Summit Reports and Joint Accreditation Data Reports from recent years, the manuscript describes the continued growth of the jointly accredited community and the expanding reach of IPCE across healthcare professions, settings, and learner populations. The authors explore how IPCE developed “by and for the healthcare team” supports collaborative practice, strengthens healthcare teams, and aligns continuing education with improvements in patient care and system‑level outcomes.

The article also highlights emerging priorities for the future of IPCE, including deeper engagement of diverse health professions, enhanced measurement of outcomes beyond knowledge acquisition, strengthened patient‑centeredness, and the use of technology to support scalable and accessible interprofessional learning models.

These themes closely align with IPCE Delivers, Joint Accreditation’s campaign to communicate the value and impact of interprofessional continuing education and the critical difference IPCE makes for healthcare teams, organizations, and the patients they serve.
