2024 Joint Accreditation™ Data Report Highlights Growth and Impact

We are pleased to announce the release of the 2024 Joint Accreditation™ Data Report: Learning Together, Leading Forward. This seventh annual report provides a comprehensive overview of the continuing education (CE) activities, learners, and outcomes reported by 187 jointly accredited providers for 2024.

The report highlights the remarkable growth and impact of the interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) community. In 2024, jointly accredited organizations delivered 123,175 activities, engaging nearly 34 million learners across a wide range of health professions—including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, psychologists, optometrists, physician associates, social workers, dieticians, and athletic trainers.

The data, collected through the Joint Accreditation Program and Activity Reporting System (JA-PARS), provides insights into:

  • Aggregate statistics on activities, learner interactions, and hours of instruction
  • Breakdowns by activity type, profession, and support/funding model
  • Insights into performance and outcomes measurement
  • Trends in commercial support, registration fees, and advertising/exhibit income

The findings underscore the foundational role of IPCE in fostering collaboration, strengthening team-based care, and advancing community health. As healthcare organizations continue to innovate and evolve, IPCE remains a vital strategy for equipping professionals with the skills and perspectives needed to improve outcomes in complex care environments.

We extend our gratitude to all jointly accredited providers for their leadership and commitment to learning that bridges professional gaps and supports healthier communities.

RESOURCES AND REMINDERS

COMPLIANCE CHECK: UNDERSTANDING THE 30-MINUTE RULE

Several of you have reached out to ask how best to schedule live CE in conjunction with nonaccredited activities, particularly as it relates to the 30-minute rule outlined in JAC 12. To provide greater clarity, we’d like to share answers that can help you understand the “why” behind the rule and apply it with confidence.

Q1: I’m holding accredited and nonaccredited CE in two separate rooms—can I hold them simultaneously, or do I still need to schedule a 30-minute break between them?

You can separate your accredited education by time or space. When you use separate rooms, you ensure that accredited and nonaccredited CE do not occur in the same educational space. Accredited education and nonaccredited activities can happen at the same time, as long as they are held in separate spaces. Additionally, accredited education and non-accredited activities can happen in the same space, as long as they are separated by a 30-minute buffer and the nonaccredited activity is clearly labeled as such.

Q2: I know for a fact that my nonaccredited activity was not “developed by or with influence from an ineligible company.” Can I skip the 30-minute rule? The activity is nonaccredited because I was unable to verify some of the speaker’s scientific content.

Since your planners or speaker might have relevant financial relationships that would have required mitigation, your activity would need to be separated by a 30-minute break or separate space.

By putting these strategies in place, you are helping to create a protected space for healthcare professionals to learn, teach, and engage in scientific discourse, free from ancillary activities and nonaccredited education.

A FEW QUICK ADMINISTRATIVE REMINDERS

As we head into the next few months, here are a few things to keep on your radar:

Additional Health Professions Credit Survey – Coming early October, every jointly accredited provider should select any or all additional health professions’ credit they would like to plan, offer, and award for the year 2026.

Keep Us in the Loop – Have any new team members or updated contact details? Be sure to update your information in our database (JA-PARS) so you stay connected.

Invoices Coming Soon – Watch your inbox in early November for this year’s invoices for the 2026 Annual fee and for additional healthcare professions selected.

Mark Your Calendar – Annual fee and additional health profession credit payments are due by January 30, 2026.

Healthcare Continuing Education Professionals Day – It’s not too early to start making plans to celebrate your team and your accomplishments. The 2025 observance is scheduled for Friday, January 23.

Thanks so much for your attention to these items!
